Polling will take place between 7am and 10pm on Thursday 4 July 2024.

Voters are legally required to show photo ID when voting at a polling station at this election.

Deadline For Applications To Be Included On The Register Of Electors For This Election

  • Midnight on Tuesday 18 June 2024

To vote in the UK Parliamentary election you must be:

You must be registered to vote and either:

  • a British, Irish or Commonwealth citizen
  • a British or eligible Irish citizen living abroad who has previously lived in the UK or been registered to vote in the UK
  • aged 18 or over on the day of the election

If you are not already registered you can go online to register to vote – it only takes five minutes. You must register before midnight Tuesday 18 June 2024

Deadline For Applications To Vote By Post Or To Change/Cancel Existing Postal Voting Or Proxy Arrangements

  • 5pm Wednesday 19 June 2024

You can apply for a postal vote online. If you cannot apply online, If you cannot apply online, download and fill in a postal vote application form and send it to this office using the contact details listed below

Before making an application you’ll need:

  • the address where you are registered to vote
  • your National Insurance number or other identity documents, for example a passport
  • the specific date of the election or referendum you want to make a postal vote, if you only want a one-off postal vote

You’ll also need to upload a photo of your handwritten signature in black ink on plain white paper.

If you cannot provide a signature or one that always looks the same, you may be able to apply for a postal vote signature waiver within the online service.


Deadline For New Applications To Vote By Proxy

  • 5pm Wednesday 26 June 2024

You can apply for a proxy vote online. If you cannot apply online, please download and complete and the return the relevant form which you can find at https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections/ways-vote/apply-vote-proxy

Please return your application form using the contact details listed below.

Before making an application you’ll need:

  • your National Insurance number or any other identity document, for example a birth certificate
  • the address where your proxy is registered to vote
  • contact details for your proxy

You’ll also need to upload a photo of your handwritten signature in black ink on plain white paper.

If you cannot provide a signature or one that always looks the same, you may be able to apply for a proxy vote signature waiver within the online service.

In certain circumstances, where you have an emergency that means you can’t vote in person, you can apply for an emergency proxy.

This must be something that you weren’t aware of before the normal proxy vote deadline and applications must be submitted by 5pm on polling day

Deadline For New Applications For Voter Authority Certificates

  • 5pm Wednesday 26 June 2024

You only need to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate if:

  • you do not have accepted photo ID
  • you no longer look like the photo on your ID
  • the name on your photo ID is different to your name on the electoral register

If the name on your photo ID is different, you can register to vote again or take a document with you to vote that proves that you have changed your name.

Before you apply for a Voter Authority Certificate, check if you already have accepted photo ID and when you need it to vote.

If you have applied for a Voter Authority Certificate before the deadline of 5pm on 26 June 2024, but have not received your certificate by Tuesday 2 July, you can either make an appointment with the Electoral Registration Officer to prepare and collect your temporary certificate in person.

If you cannot make an appointment or attend the office you may apply for an emergency proxy if your Voter Authority Certificate does not arrive in time for the poll.
